Ever since Darwin went on his naturalist’s voyage on the HMS Beagle, human interest and inquiry continues on these isolated equatorial islands near Ecuador. Ongoing studies of unique species of plant and animal life has continued to support the Theory of Evolution that Darwin wrote about in his book On The Origin of Species in 1859. This class will take a look at the variety of organisms and the adaptations that made them so interesting to Darwin and all of science. We will also examine how this interest has led to environmental conflicts for the people of the Galápagos, as well as for tourism and the native species found on these islands. This class is offered by our collaborative Harper College instructor, Dr. Suzanne Rausch.
