This course exceeds the requirements outlined by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and those defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1002. It provides students with the essential knowledge and skills needed to perform as professional fire apparatus engineers. The course includes classroom hours along with an additional day of hands-on scenarios, ensuring that students gain the confidence and repetition needed by every pump operator. There is also a blended learning component incorporated into the course.
For state certification, students are required to:
• Be certified as a Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter
• Pass the OSFM written exam (the student must sign up on the Pearson Vue website after the completion of the course)
• Complete a driving practical with the student’s employing fire department
