The Japanese Otsu Incident in 1891 was an unsuccessful assassination attempt on young Nicholas II, almost beginning a war between Japan and Russia. At the time, Japan was not ready, but between 1902 and 1903, the empires of Japan and Russia lay claim to lands in Manchuria. Launching a sneak attack, Japan was fully prepared for a war that the giant Russia would lose in the most dramatic and embarrassing way.
