Around the world, people come together to celebrate traditions that are centuries, and sometimes millennia, old. From three-thousand-year-old festivals and revolutionary commemorations to male beauty contests, giant food fights, celebrations of dogs, the arrival of spring, and even the punishment of mischievous behavior, these events showcase the creativity and spirit of human culture. They are flamboyant, often playful, always exuberant, and sometimes wonderfully sticky and messy! And then there’s the legendary festival inspired by the tale of a medieval bride who, after beheading her tyrannical groom, freed her people from starvation. Bring a helmet for this one, because it has evolved into a glorious three-day food fight!
