Within each Native American nation are some of its most honored individuals: the medicine men and medicine women. The objects they use to direct healing energies are both functional and profoundly beautiful. These tools are carved, beaded, painted, and adorned with intricately woven and dyed porcupine needles, fur, leather, and feathers ranging from hummingbirds to eagles, and they are considered to be "alive."
